Oreste "Tino" Leto, Jr. Obituary
Oreste "Tino" Leto, Jr., of Kennett Square, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. He was the husband of Elizabeth Benge Leto, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Kennett Square, PA, he was the son of the late Oreste and Jennie Sicco Leto. He owned and operated his own mushroom business for many years. He served as a Kennett Township supervisor for 18 years, was a forming member of the Township Planning Commission, and was the current chairman of the Township Historic Committee. He was also a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Coffee Klatch, the Poker Club and a weekly bible study group. Tino was member of Shellbark Lodge in Lycoming County, PA, where he enjoyed many years of hunting with family and friends. He served in World War II as a navigator on a B-17 in the 388th Bomb group, where he flew 35 missions. He was chairman of the historic committee for the 388th Bomb group.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 brothers, Charles J. Leto, and his wife, Betty, Victor E. Leto, and Robert R. Leto, and his wife, Kay, all of Kennett Square, PA; 2 sisters, Mary Leto, of Kennett Square, PA, and Sylvia Fawcett, of West Grove, PA; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Rosalie Leto and Hilda Leto Smith; and 2 brothers, Joseph Leto and Frederick Leto.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 10, 2006, at the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square, 211 South Broad Street, Kennett Square, PA. Family and friends are invited to his viewing from 6-8 on Thursday evening, March 9, at the KUZO & GRIECO FUNERAL HOME, INC., 250 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA, and may also visit with the family on Friday morning, at the church from 10-11. Burial will be private in Union Hill Cemetery before the memorial service.
